Senior Associate Vice Chancellor and Chief Financial Officer

Mike Clune joined UCSF in 2011 and currently serves as the senior associate vice chancellor and chief financial officer for the campus. The UCSF Finance organization includes Budget & Resource Management, Controller, the FAS Finance Service Center, Risk Advisory & Insurance Services, and Supply Chain Management.  Mike’s primary responsibility is to ensure that campus financial resources are carefully stewarded and effectively managed to assist in achieving the UCSF’s mission to advance health worldwide.

In addition to his role at UCSF, Mike is the First Vice President of the Western Association of College and University Business Officers (WACUBO) board of directors.  WACUBO offers business officers in the western region opportunities to develop professionally, to identify solutions for issues affecting higher education, and to share their expertise with their colleagues.  Mike was also recently appointed to the NACUBO Board of Directors, and his three-year term begins July 2023 through July 2026.

Prior to joining UCSF, Mike worked in the UC Office of the President in Oakland, California for 11 years, primarily on University-wide administrative and policy issues related to enrollment management, budget development, and resource administration.

Mike earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration at the University of San Diego and later earned a master’s in statistics and Ph.D. in demography at UC Berkeley.
